The Komatsu Innovative Autonomous Haulage Vehicle or IAHV is here. This next generation mine haul truck does not even have a cab for a driver, so it is a true autonomous vehicle. This major design change comes with several important advantages:
- a balanced load centered over the two axials
- articulating wheels
- ability to go forward and reverse with equal ease of operation
- Better traction is slippy environments
While it was only recently introduced, Komatsu plans to have it deployed in the field soon. This is real innovation and great thinking.
