IBM Canada’s Michael J Martin will be providing the keynote address at the annual conference kick-off dinner for the 2017 Canadian Independent Telecommunications Association (CITA) event. This event will be held in Montreal at the Bonaventure Hotel from February 26 to 28, 2017. The keynote will be delivered during the dinner on February 26th, 2017.
Martin will speak about the use of the Internet of Things technology in a variety of advanced applications ranging from mining, smart cities to medical.
He will highlight how it was applied to help care for neonatal infants at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children. This project was lead by Dr. Carolyn McGregor. Dr. McGregor AM is the Canada Research Chair in Health Informatics based at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology, located in Oshawa, Ontario. The program was run in concert with the hospital and IBM Canada.
In 2008 she was awarded a multi-million dollar IBM First of a Kind Research (FOAK) Award. In 2009 she received the IBM Infosphere Innovation award for her UOIT based team’s role in project Artemis. In 2010 she was awarded the UOIT Early Career Research Excellence Award. In 2011 she was one of four international innovators featured in the IBM Centennial “Wild Ducks” video, also now available on YouTube.
It used real-time data that was harmonized and fed into a computing platform for analysis and the return of intelligence to better care for the babies.
